Yes its very excitement around here at the moment, not to mention a few nerves!

I came across this gorgeous Christmas table setting the other day, its very laid back and easy to create yourself! The last thing you want on Christmas day is to be worrying about the decorations for your table as well as the cooking and the entertaining and of course playing Santa.

This could all be done on Christmas eve, ready to go for the next day! You can just use old pasta sauce jars or old bottles you have around the house, tie some string, ribbon or raffia around them, pop your flowers in and your done! Change the colours to suit your theme and your decor and you have an easy, affordable DIY table centerpiece for your guests to enjoy.

I am also going to have a go at making these using old jars for Christmas this year (time permitting of course) I think they are a great unique idea and cost effective too.

Unique Christmas cupcakes in a jar!

This week we have our Oriental Lilies on special, these are bouquets of 5 stems with foliage's in our signature wrap. They are normally $50 but this week we have them on for $40 plus delivery costs. They are only available while stocks last so don't wait as we only have a limited number available.

To order online simply follow the link below or email us your order to info@flowersonthegoldcoast.com.au
http://www.flowersonthegoldcoast.com.au/oriental-lilies-in-singnature-wrap-special/

On other news we have entered into Tesselaar Flowers 'Spring Wedding Flower' Competition on Facebook. First prize is a DSLR Nikon Camera and I would love love love to win it! Details on how you can vote will posted in the next few weeks, voting does not open until the 2nd December but be sure to check back for details in the next few weeks so you can help me out by voting for my work!

Tip of the week:
A floral preservative can help your flowers last longer. We send out sachets with bouquets (not arrangements) You can also use a store-bought preservative or make your own. Some recipes mix lemon with a little bleach, while others recommend a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of bleach.

Only 8 weeks till Christmas!?!?

Only 8 weeks until Christmas, where on earth has this year gone!! With our baby due in three weeks I have been so preoccupied with everything I seemed to have forgotten all about it. We are trying out secret Santa in our family this year, it was my idea so we will see how it goes with the more 'traditional' family members :)

This week we have had some very pretty flowers in as I recover from the big wedding last weekend. Calla Lilies are still gorgeous, Lissianthus and Peony Roses are becoming more plentiful, there have even been Hydrangea plants around..... one of my all time favourites. I have also noticed some beautiful Pacific Giant Delphinium around - I will share a pic with you of these below, to me these are perfect for sprucing up the house on a summer weekend in a big vase. The natives continue to bloom at thier best at the moment with the Cordifoliums still looking beautiful, and the King Proteas just stunning.

Tip of the week:
When choosing flowers, look for the ones with the most buds. Flowers such as Lilies last much longer for you if you buy them in bud stage and let them open out at home. There is also less likely to be any damage during transport this way as the petals can not be broken or bruised if they are in closed bud form.

The name Delphinium comes from the Greek and refers to the buds, which are ‘dolphin-shaped’

A beautiful wedding

Over the weekend my brother Bradley and now sister in law Kieran were married. It was a beautiful day with the weather holding out for them, the ceremony and reception were both held at the gorgeous Brookwater Golf Club, Brookwater.

I can now reveal Kierans colour scheme and flower choices to everyone....... Lime green, white and orange! It sounds a bit out there but it looked stunning and different, just like a pretty spring garden. We used orchids, Poppies, Roses, Freesias, Trix and lots of berries and interesting little embellishments including handmade fabric flowers. I had absolutely no luck in bringing Ranunculus back as they are now out of season and my efforts to locate the first David Austin Roses of the season were also in vain. None the less the bouquets and tables looked fantastic and both Kieran, Bradley and all the guests loved them..... Phew!

Here is a photo of the happy couple

The new Mr and Mrs Beddoes!

On other news from the week we have, as always, been sending out some beautiful blooms, this week we even re created one of last years wedding bouquets ordered by the groom to send to his wife for their first year anniversary.... what a romantic!

We are as mentioned above yet to see David Austin Roses, I think in the next week to two weeks we will start to see the first of them. I did, however get my first bunch of Peony Roses of the season in at the beginning of the week! They were just so beautiful and fragrant, I'll share a picture with you, below.

Tip of the week:
Keep your flowers away from Ripening fruit, especially Bananas! These give off an ethylene gas which makes your flowers age quicker, good if your trying to get your lilies open for a function, not so good if you are wanting your flowers to last a long time. Also keep them out of direct sunlight and breezes and away from electrical appliances these will all shorten the life of your flowers.

Peony Rose "flower of riches and honour"

A tough week!

It has been a very tough week around here this week. After a lovely weekend spent with family and friends at our 'pre baby BBQ' my husband and I woke on Monday morning to one very sick puppy dog.

Our gorgeous girl is a full bred Bullmastiff weighing in at 50kg, she is 4 and a half years old. After rushing her to the vet Monday morning she ended up at the specialist vets at Albany creek in intensive care by that afternoon.

Test after test were done on our Roxy girl and nothing could be found. On Wednesday afternoon the specialist was convinced she had a brain tumor and we were told to prepare for the worst.

Thursday morning my husband and I made the trip in to visit our beautiful girl and to our complete surprise Rox had made some big improvements overnight. While the vet still thinks she does in fact have a brain tumor we have now brought her home and she is getting a little bit stronger every day, I'm sure being in her own environment and bed is helping her as well.

While she is still on a lot of meds we are so happy to have her back here with us and will see how she goes when she comes off her medication.... We have everything crossed for her recovery. I currently have a very tired husband who is passed out with her on the loungeroom floor, he has been up checking on her every half hour during the nights since we got her home.

So we apologize to our customers this week who may have called and received a closed message on our machine, as you can imagine it has been tough and I have not been around much to take orders. Being 8 months pregnant has not helped in an already very emotional week!!!

In spite of all that I have still sent out some beautiful orders this week, there have been gorgeous Leucospermum Pincushions in oranges, reds and yellows, Oriental Lilies have been beautiful this week as have Roses, Orchids and the King Proteas.

Next weekend my brother and sister in law to be are getting married so I will be chasing down David Austin roses and Ranunculus - these are both in between seasons it seems so it is my mission next week to find some!

Tip of the week:
Make sure when you receive a bouquet of flowers or even if you pick a pretty bunch from your garden that you cut 2cm off the ends of the stems before you place them into water. Repeat this every second day to prolong the life of your flowers. We do this as even if the flowers are only out of water for a few seconds the stems can start to close over, making it harder for them to drink properly. All our flowers are delivered in either oasis or water gel bags helping to keep them as fresh as possible for your enjoyment!

I will leave you with a picture of the gorgeous Luecospremums that we have been getting in the last few weeks, these are native to South Africa and last for weeks as a cut flower.
